...The former Portugal occupied colony has plenty of arable land and ample energy and mineral resources. Yet, Mozambique remains among the top 5 poorest countries in the world, with expansive sectors of the population continuing to live well below the poverty line.
—few believe that anything will really change.
BUT GOD has a plan.
God has placed Family of God Ministries within the boarders of Mozambique. We are the only National NGO Non-profit in the area of Manhica. Manhica district is 2,373 square kilometres (916 sq mi). One of the many ways we are bringing change is by giving away what God gives to us. Family of God Ministries is sharing what we learn with our neighbors.
Family of God Ministries has been praying and working on exciting NEW ways of farming in Mozambique. We have been researching and experimenting with farming methods and techniques for more than 2 years. Due to extreme hostility of environment, Moz. is enduring it's 8th year of drought, high volatility of storms and winds, as well as areas, hit hard by extreme flooding. These extremes have produced many agriculture challenges throughout the area and the Country.
Cyclone Idai made landfall in Mozambique March 14 and 15, 2019 equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane. Five weeks later, April 25, 2019 Cyclone Kenneth came ashore with hurricane-force winds and heavy rains equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. These are some of the worst storms ever recorded to hit the area. As a direct impact much of the farm lands were devastated and are currently unusable.
Feeding and humanitarian programs from around the world arrived. Relief came from all across the globe and we continue to be deeply appreciative and humbly grateful. The world at large however, has since gone home, to once again return to the routine of their daily lives. There has been little left behind to alleviate the continued devastation and suffering. The hopelessness does not lead to a future of growth or bring change for tomorrow.
BUT GOD...
As Family of God Ministries, continues to embrace the leading and direction of Holy Spirit, we are learning to not only expect change, but to embrace it. God is Creator, not just director and leader. In a country that has a poverty level above 80% we cannot simply watch as people continue to suffer.
Family of God Ministries is not feeding in a moment of disaster, we are invested long term.
Due to the ways Holy Spirit has been changing and growing our own farming techniques, Family of God is being equipped and beginning to teaching those around us. As we learn we share and teach. People are learning how to grow their own gardens. In turn equipping them to feed themselves. It's like the old saying, "Give a man a fish, he will eat today. Teach a man to fish, he will eat tomorrow."
Still water Hydroponics, is very simple way of growing vegetables, such as lettuce, cabbage, even pineapples without need of large fertile garden areas which require much watering and attention. This method of hydroponic farming, does not require electricity. No pumps for water flow and no watering.
The Kratky system requires only, water tight containers, (we bury the containers to the neck in order to block sunlight. The sunlight within the container will produce algae which in turn hinders the growth of the root system.) a small amount of fertilizer, (we make our own; fish parts and manure mix with small amount of water. Let sit overnight, strain and add 3 tbs to container, fill with water to seedlings root base.) add seedling, sunlight and watch grow.
Most of the areas in Manhica and surrounding bush, such as Mitilani are dry, hot, sandy desert areas. Walking many kilometers each day, to carry water back and forth was the only way to exist. Survival meant drilling our own well. Now the Lord has provided a way of clear, clean water, but we must be good stewards of all He gives. This means listening and following His Will, as Creator.
Now we have been saving much labor and water developing simply engineered ways of farming. This is allowing us more time for truly investing in those around us. Relationship building and the uplifting of those around us comes by revealing the true love of God. God is truly awe inspiring is everything He does.
Without God's revelations, insights and direction, Family of God Ministries could not possibly be making these levels of impact for Christ. It is astounding as we see one life after another changing and growing physically yes, but more for Christ Jesus.
I am so grateful for your personal relationship with Him as well. As each of us, depend on Holy Spirit to lead and grow us individually, into who He created us to become, the glory to God is without compare!
